After a lengthy discussion at the Intergroup meeting on 8/15/05 and a group conscience, it was voted by a majority (10-1) that we cancel "Your Answering Service" immediately. The (530) 622-3500 number has been transferred, as of 8/16/05, to a A.A. members' homes to take calls. If there is not an A.A. member available to take a call, there will be an answering machine with 2 to 4 other A.A. members' phone numbers available for the caller to call for information or 12-Step help. This is a TEMPORARY fix. Intergroup formed a committee to research returning to this service with some changes or other avenues of service available that Intergroup can afford. This committee will bring back their findings to Intergroup next month for discussion. Thank you to our Teleservice Chairperson, Annie B. for all her hard work. Annie has given us many years of her time and service which is greatly appreciated by all. “Thank You Annie.” Thank you to our Teleservice volunteers for your time and service. However, until we get a new service or means of taking calls, there will be no calls coming to each of you during your shift. Thank you to all the groups that contributed financial help; we couldn't have lasted this long without you. Would you be willing to be a volunteer in the future if needed, when we determine how this will be done? Please email me (see link below) or call me and the committee will gladly keep you on the list, and let you know what changes are being made and how we can use your volunteer service. In Service, Linda S, Intergroup Chair [ Email to Volunteer for Teleservice ] | District 22 Launches Western Slope A.A. Web Site (posted August 17, 2005) | After six months of study and collecting a group conscience from groups throughout the district, we now make this web site available to carry the A.A. message thoughout the Western Slope of El Dorado County. | | | These archived FAQs represent questions asked in the past year. | How will you ensure the A.A. Traditions are observed in this web site? First, as trusted servants of A.A., we are fortunate that the service experience of others is written for us to follow. In addition to the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions, General Service also relies upon the 12 Concepts for World Service, the A.A. Service Manual and GSO guidelines in its actions and group conscience. Second, to ensure we keep sight of A.A. principles in our daily service affairs, the Web Committee is our forum for creating district-level guidelines and for making decisions, under the leadership of our DCM. Third and most importantly, we rely upon the groups throughout our district who, via their GSRs, to give us their voice and groups' conscience on all service we carry out on their behalf. Why doesn't this web site cover all the cities in El Dorado County? Geographically, our district covers only the western side of El Dorado County, hence the term "Western Slope." Because the Sierra Nevada mountain range runs though the middle of the county, the A.A. groups in cities on the eastern side of the Sierras (such as South Lake Tahoe) have long ago elected to be represented by the Northern Nevada A.A. service committees that are closer to them. Isn't it expensive for the district to maintain this web site? Not at all. The hosting expense (sort of like renting an Internet P.O. box) is $7 per month. We do all our own programming and design work, so we don't rely on any outside parties other than the hosting service (also called the ISP, or Internet Service Provider) already mentioned. Will A.A. web sites like this replace our printed literature? Never. A.A.'s printed books, pamphlets and meeting schedules will always be essential tools in carrying the A.A. message. And like so many other A.A. organizations who now publish on the web, including GSO, we view the web as an additional, useful tool by which we can provide informa- tion and service to the A.A. Fellowship, the public and to the alcoholic who still suffers. Can you post photos from my group's latest social event? No, this runs counter to our interpretation of the A.A. tradition for anonymity at the level of press, radio and film. The Internet is just a modern-day publishing method, and it is entirely open to the public. So here on the District 22 site, we feel that using first names only is in keeping with our A.A. anonymity practices, but posting photos in which any A.A. member could be identified by those outside our Fellowship, is not. | | |
